Message Hi all, new here to the twinturbo community, although I've owned a couple Z32's and have had my current one about 2.5 years. I've searched and searched and searched and am really in need of some community support... and some moral support. My car is a 1993 NA with manual transmission. It surges (more noticeable in the mornings) under steady throttle. It's almost like a steady pulse of the power coming and going like a blinker turning on and off. Once it gets to 2700 rpms it all of a sudden has loads of power. Once the car warms up completely, that problem quits. The other problem is on really hot days (90 degrees F) or above, the car seems to have absolutely no power. I will just rattle off the things I've done, checked, cleaned, and replaced so you know where I'm at. I ran ecu code check, got none. Replaced fuel injectors with 96+ style. Tested fuel pump (a little low, 33 at idle and 40 wot (with pressure regulator vacuum line connected)). Cleaned air filter, iacv, throttle bodies. Checked voltage on tps and on maf sensor. Tightened up all vacuum related connections. Checked pcv valves, egr, O2 sensors, and coolant temperature sensor, and did the power balance test. I also checked the timing, alternator, battery, and grounds.
- My thoughts are this... I haven't replaced the spark plugs yet and currently have NGK iridium plugs in there. I know the PFR6G-11 is the preferred plug, but I didn't know that when I bought the iridium plugs about 20k ago. I also believe my timing belt tensioner is bad, because I get intermittent metal slapping noise when the car is cold some mornings, and once the car warms up the noise disappears for the rest of the day. My thought is the fluid in the tensioner likely expands to the point that it tightens up the pulley (replaced pulley, not tensioner when T-Belt was done) when the car is completely warm. My vtc gears are also chatty, even with the stiffer springs in them, but this slapping noise is something different. My thoughts are circling around spark plugs, timing possibly being off somewhere, or MAF (even though it tested ok). Any help is always appreciated.
